The Light: Entertainment
As The Light expanded its offering beyond cinema, entertainment then became another key part of the business, with five sites now offering a wide range of entertainment activities including bowling, mini golf, interactive darts, climbing, axe throwing, shuffleboard and more.
Because this proposition has a distinct personality from the cinema brand, I was tasked with adapting The Light’s visual identity for this market across a range of touchpoints. The work below showcases selected examples of how I developed the brand to communicate the energy, variety and personality of The Light’s entertainment offering.
Window Vinyls
I was tasked with creating a visually engaging solution for large window spaces across four of The Light’s entertainment sites. These highly visible windows presented a valuable opportunity to showcase the activities available at each venue and attract attention from passers-by.
I developed a system combining playful activity iconography with bold typography and a colourful rainbow ribbon. Each activity is represented by a distinctive, fun icon alongside its name, immediately communicating the experience on offer. A bold serif typeface adds personality while retaining a sense of quality. Then the rainbow ribbon connects the individual elements and creates a visual journey towards the entrance.
The system was designed to be flexible and adaptable across all of the sites, while maintaining a consistent connection to The Light brand. The finished vinyls have been very well received and have significantly increased the visibility of the entertainment offering to passing audiences.
The Light Huddersfield Wayfinding
The Light Huddersfield opened in May 2025 and is the company’s biggest and most ambitious site to date. I had the opportunity to work across a wide range of signage and wayfinding for the venue, as well as leading the visual assets for its launch.
Spanning 70,000 square feet across three floors, the venue features 15 entertainment activities, a 6-screen cinema, and a bar and kitchen. With such a large and varied space, clear wayfinding was essential, while the graphics also played an important role in bringing the venue’s visual themes to life.
Each of The Light’s entertainment sites has its own distinct theme, with Huddersfield centred around a combination of retro and circus-inspired areas. I developed graphics that complemented these themes while also all working together across the site. This included directional and informational signage, window vinyls, photobooth and a chain wall, among other elements. Together, these assets helped create a varied, yet cohesive visual experience throughout the venue.
The Light Huddersfield Opening
I led the design of the launch campaign for The Light Huddersfield, covering billboards, local marketing and digital communications. For the campaign, we drew on the venue’s circus-inspired theme and gave it a modern twist. I brought together the playful activity icons with bold typography to create a distinctive visual language that communicated the range of the offering quickly and clearly.
The combination of iconography, typography and colour created a campaign that felt energetic and memorable, while helping to position the new venue as something different for Huddersfield. The launch exceeded expectations, with large queues forming on opening day, while the site also performed above significantly above budget throughout the launch period.
